Recovering a Google Account Password Using Google Account Recovery
This procedure provides step-by-step instructions for our NEXA end users on how to recover their Google account password using Google’s Account Recovery tool.
Step 1: Open the Google Account Recovery Website
- Access the recovery page:
- Open your browser and go to https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery.
- Alternatively, type this URL into your browser’s address bar and press Enter.
Step 2: Enter Your Account Information
- Enter your email address:
- On the recovery page, input the email address of the Google account you want to recover.
- Example: If your email is example@gmail.com, type it in the provided field.
- Click Next to proceed.
Step 3: Verify Your Identity
- Choose a recovery method:
- Google will prompt you to verify your identity. Common options include:
- Email verification: Send a recovery link to your backup email.
- Phone verification: Send a verification code via text or call.
- Answer security questions: If set up, you may need to answer questions about your account.
- Example: If asked to verify via phone, you’ll see a message like “We’ve sent a code to your phone ending in 1234.”
- Google will prompt you to verify your identity. Common options include:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the chosen method.
Step 4: Reset Your Password
- Create a new password:
- Once your identity is verified, you’ll be prompted to set a new password.
- Example: Use a strong password like $MyS3cur3P@55w0rd!$
- Password requirements:
- At least 12 characters.
- A mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters are prefered.
- Confirm the password by typing it again and click Save.
Step 5: Log Back Into Your Account
- Go to https://mail.google.com.
- Enter your email and newly reset password.
- Click Sign In to access your account.
